About

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) began its organizing efforts in Virginia in 2006 and in 2012, we united our local chapters in Fairfax County and Loudoun County, and among Home Care providers across the Commonwealth. The Fairfax Deputy Sheriffs joined our ranks in 2013, and through political and community organizing, we collaborated with partners and allies to successfully overturn the ban on collective bargaining in 2020. Our membership continued to grow, and in 2023, Richmond City workers became part of SEIU Virginia 512. Our union stands firm in the belief that all working families deserve dignity, respect, fair wages, benefits, and a voice in the workplace. In 2026, We represent 16,000 workers, and we are working to organize over 28,000 more!

SEIU Virginia 512 members advocate for good union jobs and justice for everyone in our community. We ensure that older adults and people with disabilities lead healthy and active lives as home care providers, nurses, and social workers. We keep our communities safe and clean, working as sanitation workers and building inspectors. We help children learn and play as child educators, librarians, community center workers, and park staff. We deliver the quality, cost-effective services that residents rely on.

As we continue to grow, we benefit from the support and local expertise of our team, while also enjoying the resources provided by our strong SEIU network of over 2 million workers nationally.
