Fairfax County workers with FCGEU/SEIU Virginia 512 recently reached a tentative agreement (TA) with the county on our first union contract.

This win was more than 19 years in the making. County employees organized, worked together with partners and allies to overturn the ban on collective bargaining for public sector employees in Virginia, voted for their union this spring, and are now on the verge of having a true voice in the workplace with a binding contract.

But we are not there yet. We must vote YES to approve our contract for it to go into effect. In-person voting will take place at various locations around the county from October 6 through October 24.

If ratified by the SEIU Virginia 512 membership, the contract will run for three years and will include, among other things:

• Regular and Longevity pay increases
• Higher salary range maximums
• Protected telework policy
• Improved inclement weather leave
• Increased language and shift differentials
• Strong union representation rights

HOW CAN I BECOME MORE INVOLVED?

• Become a member. This is not only to vote on the contract but to keep building our union. That way, our second contract will be even better than the first.
• Become a union steward: While union meet members ratify the contract, union stewards enforce it! Learn how to become a union steward.

KEY DATES AND RATIFICATION TIMELINE

• The in-person election will run from October 6 through October 24.
• We will announce the results on October 24.
