Woodbridge, VA: Prince William County employees announced they have garnered enough support from their co-workers to file for their union election. The election timeline will be determined soon, and employees are ready to take the next step and vote to form their union with SEIU Virginia 512.
Prince William County employees are essential to keeping the county running through a diverse set of jobs, including information and technology, parks and recreation, and mental health services. They look forward to partnering with leaders to improve services and attract and keep the best possible workforce. Forming their union and securing a strong contract are the best ways to bring equity, fairness, and respect to the workplace. Workers in Richmond, Loudoun, and Fairfax have seen the union difference, and now it’s time for Prince William.
"What a great day for Prince William County; we are making history," said Patrice Summers, a 26-year county employee with the Office of Finance. "I can’t wait to vote yes in our union election because it's a win-win for employees and the community. We will soon be part of the decision-making process that will allow us to improve our workplaces and the services we provide. It will make this county a better place to live and work."
“I grew up in a very union-strong household, and I saw the benefits that my family and my parents had from being part of a union,” said Melinda Vaikasiene, a Prince William County employee and member of SEIU Virginia 512. “Prince William County employees deserve a real voice in the workplace and a chance to improve our wages and benefits. Filing for our election brings us one step closer to making that a reality.
“We’re building momentum for workers in Virginia, and it’s exciting to see,” said LaNoral Thomas, president of SEIU Virginia 512. “Change doesn’t come easy; it never does, but Prince William County employees have stuck together and are ready to win real improvements. Workers are more determined than ever to fight for the money, power, and respect we’ve earned by contributing to the fabric of our communities.”
