SEIU Virginia 512 Statement following GA's rejection of Governor Spanberger’s substitute collective bargaining bill

April 22, 2026

SEIU Virginia 512 public service and home care workers call on Governor Spanberger to sign the original collective bargaining bill that is now on her desk.

SEIU Virginia 512 public service and home care workers release statement following General Assembly’s rejection of Governor Spanberger’s substitute collective bargaining bill:

“For more than two decades, home care workers have organized for the right to form a union and collectively bargain. Together with city and county workers from across the Commonwealth, we’ve fought to ensure that we can have a voice in the jobs we love as we provide essential services to our communities.

“We’re grateful to the General Assembly for standing with us to reject Governor Spanberger’s substitute bill. We’ve fought too hard, for too long, to accept a bill that weakens and delays our rights.

“Governor Spanberger now has the opportunity to sign this historic collective bargaining bill and deliver on her promise to workers across Virginia. We call on her to sign the bill and continue working to build a Virginia that’s affordable and a place where all workers can come together to bargain for the benefits and working conditions needed to thrive.”
